This was about as much of a surprise to me as it might be to you! But with the Hilux being in the workshop for maintenance. I figured it might be a good idea to pick up a second vehicle, that can be my backup overlanding vehicle incase of something major happening in the future or have a daily drive that is a bit more sensible. So when this vehicle came up at the right price, I jumped! I landed...
Overlanding Destroys Your Vehicle. Plus Common Issues with 4x4’s (Toyota’s: Hilux, Prado, Tacoma)

The life of an overlanding vehicle is a hard one. There is a lot of pressure for these vehicles to perform in the toughest conditions, and get us back home safe. And although I’ve never been left stranded in my vehicle, it has had some pretty frustrating gremlins after the last 40,000km of pretty heavy overlanding across Southern Africa’s most rugged destinations. I didn’t build this vehicle to...

This is No Ordinary Life. These moments are priceless. Finding places in the world where there is nothing and no one, is getting harder and harder these days. So when you get to experience that absolute silence of a salt pan, and completely pristine stars above you. It’s special. I live for moments like this! Thank you @endlessafrica for an incredible Kalahari Experience! I highly recommend it!...
Thank you for this lovely episode. I am glad that you enjoyed yourselves. Travel safely in the years to come. Kind regards from Vanrhynsdorp.
How do you get the guys at terrain tamer to work on your vehicle? I went there with a 70 series and they turned me away.
Hey Xander, they are not a fitment center unfortunately. They can however connect you with their network of fitment centers to help you get your parts installed. 👌🏻 I have obviously work quite closely with the team for a couple of years now, and we do a lot of product testing and research, so I get access to Nicky and his son Andrew who help me with my projects from time to time 👌🏻
@@RoamOverlanding I see. Too bad. Feels like all the fitment centres in Cape Town are so over booked it’s not possible to get this kind of service unless you’re a product ambassador or influencer punting their products. Anyways thanks for the info and good luck with the build.
I've seen you use diesel conditioner with your trips, why?
I always run it, on all the vehicles 👌🏻 it helps to clean the diesel system & injectors, helps break down the soot in the EGR, keeps the tanks clean from microbes, and helps separate water from the diesel better for the 30 micron filter 👍🏻
@@RoamOverlanding Which diesel do you use in your vehicle, low sulfer, what diesel do you get in Africa,
Greatings from Norway
Thanks for watching!
Hi Bud!! I enjoy watching your videos from Botswana. Next time you plan a trip through Botswana please let me know so I plan to go with you. I drive the latest Navara’s double cab 4x4. Not a bad Bakkie. Can you ask Nick from Terrain Tamer if he has the suspension replacement for my Navara and upgrading the breaks. I’ll appreciate a lot. Thanks
Brilliant video, currently working on a build of my own so really appreciate the ideas and guidance!
Great to hear! have fun!
Have the big end bearings been changed?
not since ive owned her, but not sure if the previous owners did anything. Taking it for injectors next week, so im sure we will see if the vehicle has been worked on yet or if its still original
@@RoamOverlanding it would be interesting to see them. I have a 1HDT which seems to have an issue on the earlier models however research shows the fte’s are fine. 👌🏻
Cool content, just a quick inquiry....do the terrain taimer guys only do 4x4 suspension or do they cater for other cars? Thank you
They specialise mainly in 4x4 application and mainly for Nissan and Toyota; but they do have a lot of parts for other vehicles too. Best is to check their estore and see if you can find the vehicle youre looking for in the parts finder
@@RoamOverlandingthank you sir, appreciate it.
This armchair traveler is lapping up the excitement and the spender of the wild.. Thank you for taking us along. .As a trained first aider I found your kit discussion so interesting. Nobody pans for an emergency. Being properly prepared can mean the difference between an incident or a death. Stay safe. Much love from Vanrhynsdorp
What is the make and model of your secondary diesel filter? I would like to do the same setup for my Pajero.
It’s The Flash Lube 30Micron Water Separator kit; you can get it from Terrain Tamer 👌🏻
Park lights - Head Lights - Spot Lights? No bright lights 💡 😂 Brilliant video. I leant a lot! LOL loved “you can translate those sounds into feelings”…”ok Andrew go receive it”…”we don’t have third party insurance”
We had a lot of fun 🤣 the spots were wired up to the high beams, I forgot to push the button to switch them off 🙃
@@RoamOverlanding😂
It's good you found the alternator problem before you left. Looking forward to your trip on the 100.

Great to see you again. Thanks for the interesting perspective of what could be rather mundane stuff. Safe travels.
Thanks for watching! We had done so many little jobs I decided to bliksem them all into one long video, I hope the format was atleast abit entertaining 🤣
Good job👍🏻 Best regards from Sweden🇸🇪
Cool Episode. Was just wondering this morning when we will see another Roam Episode.
Thanks buddy! Just slowly moving forward on the cruiser, while working on my series for XO network, it launches early September so I gotta wikkel my boudjie

Yay! I can hear that Viper sing! It's so great to see the old bus getting some much needed love. Hope it blesses you with many more miles and smiles!
Thanks again!
Round 2 fight . Hahaha
hahaha! RUclips obviously felt threatened by the exhaust :D
what happened to the isuzu? I have the same modle isuzu 2 by 4 hoping to make it a real overlanding beast.
It’s still going strong, my uncle is enjoying it every weekend out on trips
13.4 l/100 is light for a cruiser😂 Our 105 4500EFI won’t ever drop below 23l/100
Ouch!!!
@@RoamOverlanding have you heard about the 180L aux tank replacement? It could be worth looking into….
If you break the cv's in the bush , just remove the front propshaft and engage center diff lock

Hello mr roam overlanding, when r u coming to moremi, we miss ur cars guys. U guys r rocking, and we love u guys because u r not only tourist to our country u r also promoting our tourism to the whole world for more people to come. God bless u roamoverlanding
I like your nature footage and would like to sea more of it while talking and explaning. To be honest we start loosing interest if you filming to much of your self. This counts for many people making You Tube videos and to fast forwarding a part of the video is also not a good idea, rather show that part normal and for a short while. Thank you for your effort, time and information.
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Can you share what would be the costs for the general public if we wanted to do all the work in this episode?
Great edit! Planning our first trip. What is the location of the koppie at 29:50 please?
why don't you actually show the install so people can follow along
Check this video for abit more detail on the 12v install 🤙🏻 ruclips.net/video/Bdntnhhz7L8/видео.html
Thanks for the video :) What is the book / maps you used? We’re heading to Savuti next so your video was great for our prep😊
I generally use Tracks4Africa
I was planning to jimmy then i’ve seen a lot of videos about negative about this car I’m really looking for an portable 4×4 car. I’m confused now. Should I buy this or should I wait?
Hi Adrian, please could you send some info on the battery you used?
Hey Tobias! I got it from Enertech, it’s called the Blade battery
@@RoamOverlanding thank you very much!
Audi engineering is like a Greek Siren of the sea, it calls owners to their (financial) ruin.......and they go willingly
what is the weight the roof is rated to carry?
awesome braai.....vleeis
Hello! Looks very nice your Jimny. Just quick questions, since I got my jimny , thinking getting iron bumpers, front and rear. I read that it can reach 100 lbs. What about yours? Thanks my friend.
Awesome content Adrian. The water container and water pump you used in the back, what brand is it?
Thanks buddy! It’s a Dometic 👌🏻
Epic stuff Adrian. Love the content and it's nice seeing how the build is coming along!
How about replacing the engine and gearbox mounting ?
Good things to do at this age for sure! I have inspected the dif mountings and they seem alright; will need to check engine ones still 👌🏻
@@RoamOverlanding definitely 💯 need to replace the engine and gearbox mountings, they’re notorious for cracking at this age and km of the vehicle
Some awesome new additions to the van....., looking good Thanks for the share 👀🤙👍
Great video as always, Adrian. I'm interested, though I also have a 100 series with the bonnet mirror, and I thought that a bullbar would destroy that extra bit of visibility you get from the nose of the vehicle. Do you still have full frontal visibility, or does the bar significantly reduce visibility?
It does effect it; but honestly I don’t know what it’s like without the bumper 🤣 I just like being able to see if I’m in the parking properly or not or near a pavement 😂😂 I can imagine how good it would be to see how far the bumper is from a wall too, but yes the bull bar blocks it
What brand battery is that?
It’s an Enertech 👌🏻
@@RoamOverlanding Thank you.
@RoamOverlanding please share Enertec model and spec. Looking for a slimline unit ourselves 👍🏼
How about a Raptor coated Cruiser seeing you need to do sone touch up
I’m not personally a big fan of the raptor costed vehicles
